Class Descriptions
Beginner Balboa
Balboa is the close embrace, spin and footwork focused swing dance that originated out of Southern California. Ideal for dancing relaxed to fast songs and a wonderful way to improve in footwork and partner connection, balboa is an excellent dance to add to your swing repertoire! This lesson will introduce you to the fundamentals of balboa. We will go through partner connection, technique, and the most fundamental figures including basics, out and ins, lollies, and more! This class is appropriate for people new to balboa or swing dancing and requires no prior knowledge.
Intermediate Balboa
Are your out and ins crisp, lollies twisty, and you're looking for something more? We've got you covered with some new material that builds on those fundamentals! We will get into some variations that will build your technique and add some delight to your dancing! You should be comfortable in basics, some ad-libs, lollies, and out and ins, as well as some simple turns.
Beginner Plus Lindy Hop
Got a few basics down and totally hooked? Can you go through the motions of a Swingout but it just doesn't quite feel comfortable yet? This is the class for you! We will dig in deep to the partnering and connection of the Swingout along with some variations to help you master one of the core Lindy hop moves. You should be comfortable with some 6 count and 8 count basics and a few foundational moves. Knowledge of the basic movement of the Swingout will be helpful even if it doesn't feel smooth or comfortable yet.
Intermediate Lindy Hop
Maybe you have been dancing for a little while and want some more moves and variations to spice up your dancing. Maybe you are feeling confident with your Swingout are ready to take your Lindy Hop to the next level. This is the class for you. You should be able to execute a Swingout repeatedly and comfortably as well as switch between 6 and 8 count footwork patterns. You may have been dancing a few months to a few years.
Beginner Collegiate Shag
Collegiate Shag is a dance that likely originated on the beaches of the Carolinas, decades before the modern Carolina Shag came around. It is a fun dance full of hops and kicks. This is an introduction course for those who have never danced Shag before or want some new basic steps if you've taken our Shag classes before.
